불길 덮쳐오는 들판 가로지르며 돌보던 양들 안전하게 대피시킨 보더콜리

5개월째 이어진 최악의 산불로 호주가 신음하고 있다.

수십억 마리의 동물이 목숨을 잃었고 인명피해 또한 큰 상황.

전 세계인들은 이 재난이 하루빨리 끝나기를 염원하며 성금을 모으고 SNS를 통해 함께 기도하고 있다.

최근에는 화마 속에서 양떼를 무사히 대피시킨 보더콜리의 사연이 전해져 호주인들에게 희망을 전했다.

지난 6일 영국 ‘메트로’ 등 외신은 호주 빅토리아주 코리옹 마을에 사는 보더콜리 ‘펫시’의 사연을 보도했다.

새해를 앞둔 지난해 31일, 불길은 펫시가 사는 농장까지 번졌다.

농장 주인은 빨리 근처 방목장으로 양떼와 건초를 옮기기로 했다.

하지만 들불이 덮쳐오는 속도가 빨라 둘 다 신경쓰기에는 시간이 부족했다.

그때 펫시는 연기로 자욱한 들판을 가로지르며 양떼를 몰아 방목장으로 이동시켰다.

불길이 번지는 상황에서도 용감하게 제 역할을 해준 녀석 덕분에 주인은 트랙터로 건초와 사료를 무사히 옮길 수 있었다.

농장 주인의 동생인 캐스 힐은 불길이 치솟던 당시 상황과 양떼를 구한 직후 녀석의 모습을 SNS에 공개했다.

그는 사진을 공유하는 이유를 호주인들이 희망을 얻기를 바라기 때문이라고 밝혔다.

이어 “황폐한 상황에서도 감사해야 할 일이 많다”라며 산불 구호 기부에 동참을 요청했다.

Many people have asked for the original video of Patsy to be put up, so here it is….when I stood in this burnt black paddock after the fire ripped through our family farm in Corryong, all I wanted to do was show our friends and family that we were ok, that we were still here, and that even in all the devastation we still had so much to be grateful for. So many others have lost quite literally everything they have. I never dreamed that these 20 seconds of Patsy in a paddock would spread across the world, and that me posting pictures of a little black and white dog would become my way to help my hometown recover from the worst fires in living memory. It’s funny how life works sometimes… These fires are not over. Not even close to being over. They will burn for weeks, months even, and communities all over Australia are going to be hit just like Corryong has been. Our fire season here isn’t even half way through, and it seems like nowhere is safe. It’s easy to feel helpless. But, it’s also easy to help.
